Breastfeeeding action
This was posted in the Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies newsletter this week:
REP. CAROLYN MALONEY TO REINTRODUCE BREASTFEEDING PROMOTION ACT THIS SESSION In the new Congressional session, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) plans to reintroduce The Breastfeeding Promotion Act, which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect breastfeeding by new mothers; provide tax incentives for businesses that establish private lactation areas in the workplace; provide for a performance standard for breast pumps and provide families with tax deductions for breastfeeding equipment. The bill is intended to serve two purposes: 1) Promoting the health and wellbeing of infants whose mothers return to the workplace after childbirth, and 2.) To clarify that breastfeeding and expressing breast milk in the workplace are protected under the amendment made by the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978.
