There was a fascinating radio program about this - i think that it was on the Bioneers show. They were discuss how the plastics are breaking down and affecting marine life on a cellular level. Environmental issues can be improved by eating more fresh food. Cows create the most methane gas and destroy the land. Animals that are supposed to be living in the areas where the cattle graze are killed so that the cows can live there (wolves, buffalo, etc). The cattle require huge amounts of grain, which could feed more people than their meat will feed.
