International Day of the Midwife

May 5th is the?International?Day of the Midwife. ?I’d like to say something personal about midwifery and what it has meant to me. ?I don’t think that there are enough words to convey my?gratitude?to the midwives that have helped me birth my children or the ones who have helped me as I’ve helped other women in my role as a doula. ?

The day I gave birth at home, to my second child, under my own will was truly a day that my life changed forever. When my friends and family felt like I couldn’t do, my midwives had faith in me, my body and the process. It felt so amazing. Here is a picture of how amazing birth can make you feel:

But don’t take my word for it! ?Here is a great video of midwives in lots of settings all over the world put together in honor of this special day.

Don’t forget to thank a midwife today and?consider a midwife for your birth!
