This is an awesome article that I wish I had seen before I was induced with my first, which ended with an unnecessary cesearean. I ended up doing a repeat c/s with my second b/c I was too scared to VBAC a "big" baby. I did the VBAC with my third and it was amazing! He was 9 lbs 8 oz. My first was 7 lbs 8 oz and my doctor with her said I had CPD....I wish I could go tell him how wrong he was! I will share this info with all new moms to be in an effort to keep them from the pain I went through! Thank you!!

[...] Pitocin can cause contractions, but it can also cause contractions that are too strong resulting in fetal distress, or the cascade of interventions. [...]

I haven't analyzed it in detail but there is one immediate glaring assumption that jumps out at me. After epidural, the only outcomes are forceps/vacuum and c-section. There are plenty of women who get an epidural and go on to have uncomplicated vaginal deliveries.

Also, about bonding. I did not have an immediate strong sense of bonding with my baby after my vaginal delivery. It took me a couple of weeks to fall in love with him. I think this is much more normal than we are led to believe. My MIL looked at me like I was a monster when I said I didn't fall in love with him instantly.

I appreciate the part in your post about a learned bonding with baby after a cesarean. I felt this after my first birth followed the cascade of interventions and ended in an "emergency" cesarean, after my second birth, a VBAC, I realized what a natural bond was and I feel the loss of that connection with my first born everyday. I have spoken to others about it, but have never heard anyone else admit it, so thank you!

I've seen this before. Has anyone ever critiqued it? I'd love to see someone pick it apart and analyze it.
